Technical training on the IPv6 protocol from November 7th to 10th, 2016.

The DGSSI, in partnership with the ANRT (National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency) and AFRINIC (African Network Information Centre), is organizing a training session on IPv6 addressing from November 7th to 10th, 2016 at the INPT (National Institute of Posts and Telecommunications).

This training will be conducted by AFRINIC experts in the form of technical workshops. Its purpose is to raise awareness among participants about the IPv4 address exhaustion issue and its implications, as well as the necessity to prepare for a smooth transition to the new IPv6 addressing protocol.

The training is intended for computer engineers with good knowledge of IPv4 network configuration.

The program for this training is as follows:

INTERNET RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS | 1 DAY

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •  Describe the issues surrounding IPv4 address exhaustion and the risks it poses to Internet development;
  •  Present arguments explaining the ineffectiveness of NAT as a sustainable solution to the IPv4 exhaustion problem;
  •  Plan their IPv4 address needs and request resources from AFRINIC;
  •  Describe the policy development process, the importance of these policies, and how to participate in them;
  •  Describe the structure of the Whois database;
  •  Identify key objects in the Whois database and their attributes;
  •  Create and manipulate objects in the Whois database;
  •  Modify the Whois database according to their clients' allocations;
  •  Test their new address allocations.

UNDERSTANDING AND USING IPV6 | 3 DAYS

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •  Design a schema for IPv6 addresses in their organizations;
  •  Configure IPv6 on Windows/Mac and Linux;
  •  Configure IPv6 routing - static, OSPFv3, and MP-BGP;
  •  Configure tunnels to allow IPv6 sites to communicate with other v6 sites through a network configured only in IPv4;
  •  Brainstorm solutions to IPv6-related issues in their organizations.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Engineers and network administrators who understand how to create and build IPv4 networks. Participants should understand topics such as:

  •  The OSI model and the protocols operating at each layer;
  •  IPv4 addressing and subnetting;
  •  Intra-domain routing and OSPF;
  •  Basic network services like DHCP and DNS;
  •  How to use command-line interfaces on key routing platforms (i.e., Cisco IOS).
